The Curriculum
The curriculum is planned very carefully with our local feeder Middle Schools. Given our size and our role in the local federation of schools as the lead school, Whitcliffe Mount helps support Middle Schools with access to specialist teachers and accommodation wherever it can.
Pupils aged 11-14 follow the Key Stage 3 national curriculum through years 7, 8 and 9 and, on arrival at Whitcliffe Mount, they are placed in a mixed ability form group, which meets for 15 minutes each day with the form teacher. These groups are created following close liaison with the Middle Schools.
For teaching purposes in Years 9, 10 and 11 pupils are grouped and taught in sets of broadly similar ability. At Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11) pupils are guided into a number of different pathways in order to match their specific interests and aptitudes and to increase their prospects of examination success at age 16.
Pupils can choose from nearly 30 GCSE and vocational courses. We now start teaching GCSE/vocational courses from June in Year 9 in order to maximise our pupils prospects of good examination results.
