Welcome to the Art department. In this visual subject, your ideas, your experiments and your developments are valued and encouraged. It is a subject that can be as interesting as you are - the more you put in the more you get out.

Year 7
Main focus for the year: Skills
  • Autumn: Tone and Colour & Hundertwasser
  • Spring: Printmaking, Pattern & Non Western Art
  • Summer: Textiles & Flowers
 
Year 8
Main focus for the year: Skills & Ideas
  • Autumn: Surrealism/Chagall & Painting and drawing skills
  • Spring: Computer Architecture & Collage/mosaic/Gaudi
  • Summer: Pop Art, Cartoons and Cakes with Wayne Theibald
Year 9
Main focus for the year: Ideas
  • Autumn: A 3D Brief,
  • Spring: A Graphics Brief,
  • Summer: Observational work into abstraction brief (Cubism)  

BTEC
The Art Department will be running three Btec Courses this year.

  • BTEC Level 2 Diploma (equivalent to 4 GCSEs).
  • BTEC Level 2 Certificate (equivalent to 1 GCSE) with the opportunity to do more units.
  • BTEC Level 2 extended certificate (equivalent to 2 GCSEs)

If you choose Art as a subject for 10 hours over two weeks, then you will be taking a BTEC Diploma

If you choose Art as a subject for 5 hours over two weeks , then you will take a BTEC Certificate, with the opportunity to develop it into an Extended Certificate.

The quality of the work is the same whichever you choose - level 2. Only the amount of projects you will complete will differ. All the courses are 100% coursework. There is no exam.

During the course you will undertake a series of projects and activities offering opportunities to explore and to experiment with different media and techniques, such as batik, painting, sculpture, drawing, construction etc. The main aim is to build your visual language skills and develop your confidence in working through the design process. You will be able to become independent in your way of working and what you explore. You will be able to create a portfolio of your best work which you can use to create a portfolio of your best work which you can use to enable you to go onto further study or employment.
