School Twinning Project

Whitcliffe Mount is delighted to be working with Batley Girls Visual Arts College on a project which will bring together students from both schools for a very special musical performance.

This project is the first of its kind for students at Whitcliffe Mount and we hope that it will be a tremendous success, leading to further collaborations in the future.

Details of the final performance will be announced on the WMS website in the near future, with the performance planned for June 2012.

March 22
Heaton Avenue Visit

Pupils of Heaton Avenue Primary School spent a fun packed morning at the Whitcliffe Mount Business & Enterprise College under the supervision of Mr Lally and assistant Mr Awais.

The pupils took part in a number of enterprising activities using ICT whilst learning all about the Vikings. The pupils demonstrated their creative and imaginative skills during the visit. They were asked to design and create their own Viking characters using innovative online collaborative software and even managed to complete some word searches.

A fun morning was had by all and the pupils clearly thrived in the ICT environment!

March 14
Sport Relief at Whitcliffe Mount

The week commencing Monday 19th March is Sport Relief week. In this very special Olympic year, students and staff at Whitcliffe Mount will be taking part in a number of activities to promote and support the work of Sport Relief.

WMS Sport Relief Mile Challenge
We aim to complete a total of 2012 miles during the week. These will mainly be run by the students during their Core PE lessons but staff will also be getting involved and running, walking, cycling and swimming their own miles.

Sports-themed Non-uniform Day
To round off a successful week of Sports Relief activities, students and staff have the opportunity to wear sports clothes instead of their normal school uniform on Friday 23rd March. Everyone taking part will make a £1 donation to Sport Relief so we hope to be able to make a substantial contribution to this worthy cause.

Good luck to all taking part and thank you to our very generous students and staff for their continued support of our charitable work.

Worldclass 2012 Twin School

You have probably seen the adverts on TV over the past few months about twinning your school with another school to celebrate the 2012 Olympics.

We signed up last year and we have just been given our twin details;-
The Zrenjanin Grammar School in Serbia & Montenegro

We will be sharing what we are planning with them. Watch out for updates on how they too are preparing for the Olympics. Exciting times!

Donations are most welcome from students, staff, parents, or anyone else who has items to donate. The closing date for donations will be Monday 6th March 2012.

Thank you all in advance for your generous support.

2013 Ski Trip

We are running a ski trip for the new pupils arriving at Whitcliffe Mount. This will be a great way to make new friends early on at a new school.

It will follow the same format, in the same resort, with the same company, as the ski trips that have been run since 2003.

  • Saas Fee is situated in the south west corner of Switzerland and is the second highest resort in Europe.
  • Due to Saas Fee being a traffic-free village, we will be staying in the smaller neighbouring resort of Saas Grund, in a hotel called The Heino.
  • The rooms are ensuite with 2/3 beds.
  • There is a DVD projector room and table football in the hotel.
  • Meals are excellent and home-cooked, and we will also have a night in the pizzeria.
  • There are local activities such as ice skating, bowling, bobsleigh 'rollercoaster', tubing, ski trampolining demo, fireworks and disco, some of these are dependent upon snow/ice conditions.

For full details please check out the Extra Curricular Activities page.

On Wednesday 25th January students celebrated the Chinese New Year by enjoying a choice of Stir Fry and Noodles, Sweet and Sour and Rice (or a vegetarian alternative) provided by Kirklees Catering Service. The food was delicious and the Catering Staff looked the part in the Chinese bamboo hats.
