OVERVIEW
We would like to welcome you to our website, and trust that it contains the information or help you are looking for - if not, please contact us. We aim to meet the needs of prospective students, their parents, and also the parents of current students.
We are proud of the Department of Business Education and what its students and staff achieve. Visitors often comment on the happy and purposeful atmosphere they find here, which we believe comes from the warm relationships which exist between staff and students, creating a community in which each person is valued, can flourish, and achieve their full potential.
OUR VISION is "To create a successful culture of business & enterprise that is central to the life of the school. In doing so, we aim to motivate our students by providing a suitable curriculum which strongly promotes the knowledge and skills that young people need to successfully engage in future work opportunities."
OUR VALUE-ADDED/MONITORING system provides an effective means of measuring student and staff performance. Students' results on entry are measured against their subsequent progress every term and what this suggests about the likely consequences for their future achievement at the next examination stage. Praise, encouragement and help are given as needed in order to try and ensure that all students fulfil their potential.
WHAT IS BUSINESS STUDIES?
At GCSE and A level, Business Studies must be one of the most varied and diverse subjects available. A taster is offered of the most important management fields, which enables students to develop their interests for a potential future career.
Newspaper and television headlines offer continual reminders of how relevant and of how much interest the business world is to us all. In recent years much attention has been directed to such issues as recession, the troubles of the pound and Great Britain's role within the European community. Longer term issues continue to hit the headlines too... business and the environment, Japanese companies investing in the UK and the impact of new technologies on business and working lives. All these issues are relevant to our subject area.
This is an immensely popular subject within this school and attracts students with all variety of aims. A large proportion of our students go on to universities and colleges to do business studies and related degree courses - by far the biggest single subject area within higher education. Our students also go on to the rich variety of management trainee courses available, to the banks, other financial institutions, accountancy, retailing and industry.
