Art & Design

Brief Outline

Art & Design provides students with the opportunity to develop personal responses to ideas, observations, experiences and cultures through the use of different media such as clay, textiles, painting, photography and printmaking and contextual studies.

Methods of Teaching

Students are encouraged to develop their own portfolio from an Art and Design brief.  They are shown various techniques and lectured on different Art movements to help stimulate ideas and a personal response.  Much of the teaching is one on one tutorials.

Unit 1
Portfolio of work set and marked by the centre.  80 marks (50% of AS - 25% of A level)
 Unit 2  Externally set assignment.  Supervised time 5 hours.  80 marks (50% of AS - 25% of A level).
A2  

Unit 3

Personal investicagation supported by written element of 1000 - 3000 words.  80 marks (25% of A level)

 Unit 4

Externally set assignment.  Supervised time 15 hours.  80 Marks (25% of A level)

What We Expect From You

At least a grade C in Art and English at GCSE.

A commitment to a course that is lots of hard work but very rewarding.

Future Prospects

An appropriate foundation for further study of Art and Design or related subjects in higher education.  Art and Design is one of the largest areas of employment in the UK.
