Health & Social Care
This Btec qualification looks at a variety of areas that impact on everyone including diet, anatomy and physiology, communication, human life span and development, and the many different caring services and professions within the sector. The qualification will give you the knowledge, understanding and competency needed when considering entering into employment in the Health and Social care sector. You will gain a solid understanding of the essential skills and broad qualities needed for this area of study, giving you the opportunity to undertake another Level 2 qualification, progress to a qualification at Level 3, or to enter into your first job within this sector.
Methods of Teaching
The course consists of 2 Core Modules and 1 optional module or 2 Core Modules and 4 optional modules depending on the level of qualification, which will be identified as you progress through the course. The course consists of a mixture of activities, tasks, role plays and visiting guest speakers who will attend sessions to offer information regarding the various topics taught within the qualification.
Assessment
All assessment is continuous, through portfolio work, and there are no formal examinations.
- BTEC Health & Social Care Level 2 Certificate (3 modules - equivalent to 2 GCSE's)
- BTEC Health & Social Care Level 2 Diploma (6 modules - equivalent to 4 GCSE's)
You will study two core units and either one or four optional units depending on whether you study for the Certificate or the Diploma.
The core units are:
Unit 1- Communication and Individual Rights within the Health and Social Care sector. This unit looks at the ways in which we communicate, how barriers can affect communication and ways to overcome them. You will take part in several role plays and evaluate your part in the process.
Unit 2 - Individual needs within the Health and Social Care sectors. This unit looks at how individual needs change as we grow older and how the sector accommodates those changing needs by offering a wide range of services.
What We Expect From You
You must show a strong commitment to work, be willing to work as an individual or as a team member and have achieved a GCSE grade A-F in any subject to apply.
Future Prospects
These courses can lead to a position within the health industry i.e. nursing, carer, dentistry etc. but also as diverse as animal welfare i.e. veterinary work.
