How do we identify a student that has SEND?
There are four areas of need defined by the SEND Code of Practice:
- Cognition and learning;
- Social, emotional and mental health;
- Communication and interaction;
- Physical and/or sensory.
Whitcliffe Mount has a “whole student, whole school” approach to SEND policy and practice.
Early identification of students with SEND is a priority and it is the responsibility of all teachers to identify those students with additional needs. The school will then, in collaboration with the SENDCo, student and parents make every effort to ensure these students are able to join in the activities of the school so far as is reasonably possible, with those students who do not have special educational needs.
