Health and Social Care

Health and Social Care is delivered by dedicated and enthusiastic teachers. Our current Year 10 and Year 11 cohort are undertaking the BTEC Technical Award in Health and Social Care. The subject is offered as an option for students to choose during year 9.

The course encourages students to develop knowledge and understanding through applying their learning to work-related contexts, enhancing the skills they will eventually need for progression in their studies and future employment.

Students consistently achieve well in the subject, are engaged and enjoy researching the different elements of health and social care practice.

The Curriculum

Health and Social Care

Health and Social Care offers the opportunity to have a greater understanding of who you are, the changes that you will go through during your life and why you change. It allows you to investigate the interaction between people and how we communicate. Through studying Health and Social Care you will learn the knowledge and skills to continue your education in this sector and also follow a career path for yourself in medicine, teaching, childcare, youth work, family support, social work or veterinary jobs. You will be able to develop your research skills through the use of specific textbooks designed to complement the course, and through the use of the internet to support your research.

The BTEC Technical Award in Health and Social Care is comprised of three components: two internally assessed and one externally. The components include Human Lifespan Development (30% - internally assessed assignments), Health and Social Care Services and Values (30% - internally assessed assignments) and Health and Wellbeing (40% - externally assessed task).
